Why We Recheck Tip Fit Every Spring

The swing you bring to a January bay session isn't always the swing you bring to the course in June.

Connecticut's outdoor golf season is short enough that a meaningful share of our fitting sessions happen indoors, months before the person booking them will actually play a round outside. That gap between fitting and first tee time is worth taking seriously, not glossing over.

What Actually Changes Between January and June

Swing speed isn't a fixed number. Cold muscles, extra layers of clothing, and simply being out of golf shape after a long off-season all suppress transition speed in ways that show up clearly on a launch monitor. A golfer who tests at one speed in a heated bay in February can easily show up ten to fifteen percent faster once they've played a dozen rounds by mid-June.

That difference isn't trivial for a tip-matched shaft. A tip response dialed in for a slower, early-season transition can feel noticeably different once swing speed climbs back to a golfer's true summer form.

Why We Build the Recheck Into the Process

Rather than treat a winter fitting as final, we treat it as a strong starting point that gets confirmed once real conditions return. Any build completed within 90 days of the season's start is eligible for a no-charge outdoor recheck — a short session to confirm the original tip match still holds once swing speed has settled into its warm-weather range.

A fitting done in a heated bay in February is a hypothesis. Outdoor verification in May or June is the confirmation.

What Usually Happens at the Recheck

Most builds hold up fine — the original tip match was close enough that summer swing speed doesn't meaningfully change the read. In a smaller number of cases, a shaft that felt appropriately responsive in February starts to feel slightly soft at the tip once transition speed climbs, and a small adjustment gets made before the season gets away from anyone.

The Takeaway

If your last fitting happened during the off-season, it's worth treating your first few rounds outdoors as a checkpoint rather than assuming the winter numbers are the final word. A short recheck costs nothing and confirms the build actually matches the golfer who shows up in July.
