What exactly is the tip zone, and why test it separately?
The tip zone is the terminal six to eight inches of a shaft — the section closest to the head. It's the part that bends and recovers fastest through impact, and it can behave very differently from what the flex letter on the label suggests. Testing it in isolation, before a head is ever attached, tells us how a shaft will actually deliver loft to your swing.
Do I need a fast swing or a low handicap for this to matter?
No. Tip mismatches show up across every speed range, and they're often more costly for moderate or slower swings, where a tip section that's too stiff can quietly rob launch and spin without ever feeling obviously wrong.
How long does a session take?
Single-club sessions run 45–60 minutes. Iron set sessions run 60–90 minutes. A full bag survey covering every club in your bag typically runs 2.5–3 hours.
Am I required to buy clubs after my session?
Never. You leave with a written build spec whether you order that day or not. If you do build with us, your session fee is credited in full toward the invoice.
What should I bring?
Bring the clubs relevant to your session, the shoes you normally wear to play, and a rough sense of your typical scores if you know them. If specific misses have been bothering you, mention those up front so we can watch for them during delivery capture.
Do you fit left-handed golfers?
Yes. Left-handed heads are stocked across every category, and the tip zone rig works identically regardless of handedness.
Why does outdoor verification matter if I already hit balls indoors?
Hartford's playing season is short, and a swing on a cold February morning in a bay isn't always the same swing you bring outdoors in June. When a session happens in winter, we run the on-range step indoors and offer a no-charge outdoor recheck once the course opens back up, so the final spec reflects how you actually play, not just how you swing in the off-season.
How is this different from hitting demo clubs at a big retailer?
Swinging a demo and guessing whether the tip feels stiffer or softer tells you very little, since flex labels aren't standardized across brands. The rig gives us an actual deflection and recovery number to compare against before a ball is ever struck, and outdoor verification confirms it against real ball flight afterward.
How soon will my new clubs be ready?
Most builds are completed in-house within a week, since shafts and heads are stocked on-site rather than routed through an outside supplier's queue.
What if something feels off once I start playing my new clubs?
Any loft, lie, or length tweak requested within 30 days of pickup is included at no extra charge while your swing settles into the new build.
